Solon History
Settlers began arriving in Solon as early as 1820 originating from Connecticut. The township of Solon was named after the son of one of the first settlers: Lorenzo Solon Bull. In the first half of the 19th century, Solon turned to agricultural for its economy with many of the farmers growing corn and wheat as well as producing dairy. By 1850, the population had exceeded 1,000 residents. Like many cities during the time, the extension of railroad systems helped the economy grow. With its proximity to Cleveland, Solon was able to extend its reach in 1857 when the Cleveland Mahoning Railroad was built through Solon Township.

By 1917, Solon established itself as a village with its population still hovering around 1,000. By 1961, with a population of over 6,000, Solon incorporated into a city.
